Explanation:

1) Perimeter

  • The perimeter is the length of the outside of the shape. For a square you can either add all the sides up or multiply one side by 4 (this only works for a square which has equal sides)
  • 8 × 4 = 32
  • or 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 = 32 inches

2) Area

  • The area is the total space on the inside of a 2d shape and for a square you have to multiply the length of one side by itself (x²)
  • 8 × 8 = 64
  • or 8² = 64 inches ²
  • The unit for area must be squared (²)
