A codon is a group of 3 bases on a strand of messenger RNA (mRNA) that codes for a specific amino acid. Each transfer RNA (tRNA) molecule has an amino acid attached and matches up to a specific codon of mRNAs. as the tRNA pairs with the codons on the mRNA, the amino acids form peptide bonds, making a protein chain.
