In the 14th century, children were expected to obey their parents without question and were seen as subordinate to their parents. Parents had a much stricter attitude towards their children and were more likely to use physical punishment as a form of discipline. Today, parents and children have a much more equal relationship, with parents being more understanding and supportive of their children's needs and desires.
