Answer and Step-by-step explanation:

First, you must have a common denaminator. Here is the formula:

(a)/(b) +(c)/(d) =(ad)/(bd)+(cb)/(bd) =(ad+cb)/(bd)

As an example,

(5)/(7) +(2)/(3) =(15)/(21) +(14)/(21) =(19)/(21).

First, find the least common denomionator, then multiply the numerators and add.

So you would make the bottom numbers the same for example

2/4 + 5/8

you would multiply the top and bottom of 2/4 to get 4/8

so 4/8 + 5/8 = 9/8 or 1 1/8

hope this helps
