We can start solving the equation by isolating the variable on one side:
-1/5x - 1 = 12

Next, we can add 1 to both sides of the equation to get the variable by itself:
-1/5x = 13

Finally, we can multiply both sides of the equation by -5 to solve for x:
x = -65

So, the number is -65
