Explanation:

Step One: Rule out a variable by using the least common denominator. For this problem, I'll do x. -1x and -6x have the number 6 in common. We need to make it so that when added together they will cancel each other out so I'll multiply -1x by -6 and -6x by 1. 6x-6x equals 0 canceling it out. After doing this, make sure to combine the other numbers y+2y and 1-34

(-6)-x + y= 1

+ (1)-6x + 2y= -34

3y=-33

Step Two: Divide both sides by 3

y= -11
