Answer:
A picture of one president appears on a dime. His full name was Franklin Delano Roosevelt, but he was known by his initials, FDR. He was a famous President who was very important in American history. A terrible disease, polio, struck many during the early twentieth century and there was no cure. FDR's legs became paralyzed from this disease in 1921. He began research for a cure in Warm Springs, Georgia and used very clever and generous methods to raise money, such as sending dimes to the March of Dimes. Eventually, Jonas E. Salk developed the first successful vaccine and later, another vaccine was developed by Albert B. Sabin. Now, the vaccine is given when children are very young and the disease has almost been eliminated.
