Answer: Each cup of coffee is $3.25

Explanation:

First we will set up an equation using what we know.

1. Dax bought 5 drinks but we do not know the value of each drink so 5*x (5x) would be used to represent this

2. he left a $2 tip so that would be subtracted from his total (-2)

3. His total was 18.26

The equation would look like this

5x=18.26-2

Solving this equation results in an answer of 3.25 or $3.25 since we are working with money.

Answer:

$3.25

Explanation:

1) First take away the tip

As the total plus tip is $18.25 we need to take away the tip to get left with the price of the coffees

  • 18.25 - 2 = 16.25

2) Now divide by 5

We have to divide by 5 to find the price of one coffee

  • 16.25 ÷ 5 = 3.25

The price of each coffee was $3.25
