A petrol can weighs 1.8 kg when it is empty

Empty. The can holds 18 litres. When it
is filled to 2/3 with gasoline weighs the can
11.4 kg. How much does a liter weigh?

1 litre weighs 0.8 Kg

Explanation:

the weight of gasoline in the can = 11.4 - 1.8 = 9.6 Kg

that is weight of can + gasoline - weight of empty can


(2)/(3) of 18 =
(2)/(3) × 18 = 2 × 6 = 12 litres

12 litres weighs 9.6 Kg , then

1 litre weighs 9.6 Kg ÷ 12 = 0.8 Kg = 0.8 × 1000 = 800 g
