Why does the marble, placed in the center of the truck bed, hit the

ailgate when the truck is rear ended? Use inertia in your answer.

Inertia states that objects in motion tend to stay in motion and objects at rest tend to stay at rest. When the truck is rear ended, the force of the impact causes the truck to come to a sudden stop. The marble, being in the center of the truck bed and not secured, will continue to stay in motion and will therefore hit the tailgate of the truck due to inertia.
