Given the problem: What is 4.109 rounded to the nearest hundredth?

So first, we need to know the decimal places. Hopefully, you remember from elementary school about all the places to the left of the decimal (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands…). Now we’re just taking one step up from that, or simply just adding “th” to them at the end but before the “s.” So after the decimal, to the right, you would skip the “ones” and go to the “tens.” So no oneths. You would start with “tenths,” then “hundredths,” and “thousandths…” But for this problem, we are looking at the hundredths place, which is the second number after the decimal to the right, which is the number 0. Now back to elementary school lessons. If you remember how your teacher taught you how to round, hopefully your teacher told you to look at the number after it and see if its greater or smaller than “5,” which will determine if you round up or down. Greater than 5 = round up, less than 5 = round down. Typically you would round up when its 5 unless you see word problems about like how much apples John can buy with $5.50 if each apple is $1. In that case, just 5, round down, or common sense. So in this case, the number after the 0, is 9, which is the thousandths place. We would round up since 9 is closer to 10 than 1. So 0 would become 1.

The final answer is 4.11
Hope this helped!
