During the hockey season David scored goals on 28% of the shots he took if he scored 21 goals how many shots did he take? Use ratio table or equivalent ratios to show your work

Percentage basically means out of a hundred,

28% in this context would mean 28/100 hence 28 out of a hundred. Fractions are also basically ratios, 28/100 is the same as

28:100

Now we need to find the missing value (total amount of shots).

We also know that there’s a total of 21 goals.

Lets make “x” the total amount of shots

So we just match the ratio from there.

Basically a proportion.

28:100 is equal to 21:x

We put the 21 on top because 28 is the 28% total and the 28% total equals the 21 goals in total.
We put the x on bottom because we don’t know the total amount of shots took. And 100 means 100 percent which also means total, so we put the x there.

You’d get a fraction

28/100 = 21/ x

Cross multiply

28 * x = 100 * 21

28x = 2100

Solve for x

2100/28 = 75

Total amount of shots taken was 75
