When you simplify a sum , you have to use BODMAS method.

It stands for,

B-Brackets,
O-Orders (powers/indices or roots),
D-Division,
M-Multiplication,
A-Addition,
S-Subtraction.

This is the order.

But the order depends on which operation comes first. If the division part comes before multiplication, then we first divide before multiplying. If the multiplication comes in before division, then we multiply before dividing. This is same for addition and subtraction too.Here are some examples for multiplication and division.

1) 2 x 8 ÷ 4
=16 ÷ 4
= 4

2) 4 ÷ 2 x 8
= 2 x 8
= 16

Any how you should do multiplication and division before addition and subtraction according to BODMAS.

I will make 6th sum in your paper.

6) ( 2 + 3) x ( 11 - 5 )
= 5 x 6
=30

Study this example,Try to solve

[18 - 2(5 + 1)] ÷ 3 + 7

We begin with solving the innermost bracket first. Starting with 5 + 1 = 6. Thus, [18 - 2(6)] ÷ 3 + 7

Next, we work with the order, thereby multiplying 2 (6) or 2 × 6 = 12. Thus, [18 - 12] ÷ 3 + 7

There is one bracket left, [18 - 12] = 6. So, 6 ÷ 3 + 7

After B and O comes D, hence, 6 ÷ 3 = 2. So, 2 + 7

Answer= 9

Hope you will understand

Explanation:

I will only do number 1 to help you through this, any questions about the rest just ask!

1. 11 + (20 - 13)

Always start with the parentheses, so first, you will subtract 20 - 13 which will give you 7, with the 7 you will add it to the 11 because that's a leftover number, so you would have to add 11 + 7 which would equal 18.

I usually remember this:

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally,

It stands for

P =Parentheses

E= Exponents

M =Multiplication

D = Division

A = Addition

S = Subtraction

------

Always go in order, that's why I said "Always start with the parentheses" because it's in the first place.

-Hope this helps, good luck !
