In order to make a doughnut, a circular piece of dough that has a diameter of 2 inches is cut out of the center of a larger circular piece of dough that is 5 inches in diameter. What is the surface area of the top of the doughnut? You may leave your answers in terms of π.

Start with the area of the total =r^2pi = 2.5^2 x pi then subtract the area of the circle cut out= 1^2 x pi giving you area = 2.5^2 x pi - (1 x pi) . I will let you plug it in a calculator
