P1 = 4x² + 5x - 4

and

P2 = 4x² + 4x - 2

P1 - P2

==> (4x² + 5x - 4 ) - (4x² + 4x - 2)

Expanding brackets we get

==> 4x² + 5x - 4 - 4x² - 4x + 2 (signs inside the second parentheses are

reversed because of the - sign preceding it)

Group similar terms and add the coefficients

==> (4x² - 4x²) +(5x - 4x) +(-4 + 2)

==> 0 + x + 2

==> x + 2 (Choice D)
