I have not read this book in particular, but I can give some tips on general character study.

  • Firstly, pick the character you want to write about. This may seem obvious but it is a very important step; pinpointing the subject of your study will help you to be certain of the content you will need to look for.
  • Secondly, find some areas in the book where this character is spotlighted or scenes they are integral to. Finding the highlights of the story that bring out their character is also important.
  • Thirdly, ANNOTATE. I cannot stress this enough. Annotation is INCREDIBLY HELPFUL when it comes to gaining a genuine understanding of the text. Highlight, underline, and write notes in the margin to pull out the main ideas in the text. If you are using a library copy, a digital copy, or otherwise cannot annotate, taking notes is the next best thing. I still recommend doing it on paper, however, as writing things down generally tends to help people remember things more than typing them. Again, this is mostly from my experience, so do whatever works for you. Regardless of your method, you should still try to find a way to fully understand the text.
  • Finally, when it comes down to actually writing the study, it becomes very easy if you complete the steps above first. My personal method usually includes making bullet points of the points I want to try to bring up within my study (preferably within the document I am going to write it on) and edit it from there. Hope this helps!!
