Answer:

13 adults; 6 children

Explanation:

Let a = number of adults.

Let c = number of children

a + c = 19;

9a + 5.5c = 150

Let's use substitution. Solve the first equation for a.

a = 19 - c

Now substitute 19 - c for a in the second equation and solve for c.

9(19 - c) + 5.5c = 150

171 - 9c + 5.5c = 150

-3.5c = -21

c = 6

Now substitute 6 for c in a = 19 - c and solve for a.

a = 19 - c

a = 13

Answer: 13 adults; 6 children
