Why was the Radical Republican plan for Reconstruction considered “radical”? Do you think it was “radical”?

The republican plan for reconstrution was considered "radical" because during 1863 and 1877 the republicans were very extreme. After the civil war they wanted to punish the south and use their land to give to the freed slaves. They wanted to provide housing and assistance to help the freed slaves be stable which cost a lot. Their ideas were considered "radical" because after the civil war they offered no compromise as well. I believe some decisions were radical because they wanted to take the land of the south as a punishment to help the freed slaves fit in but it could cause issues as the confederates weren't very friendly. The south didn't have to pay this way. OR

I believe it wasn't "radical" or extreme because during that era african americans needed a place to stay and feel that freedom they deserved. To give them jobs and land to live in was not "radical" it was a ethical thing to do.
