The smallest number you can make is 000

and the biggest is 999

therefore there are a total number of 1000 possible combinations. (001, 002, 003 ... 134, 135, 136 ... 876, 877)

Simply: 10 ^ 3 = 1000

In your question we have 9 "scroll wheels" with 3 "different positions" in them

So we simply do: 3 ^ 9 = 19 683
