Compare and contrast society in the american south with the north. is it fair to say that by 1860, america was, in fact, two distinct societies?

I think that in basic terms the south was more rural and was more dedicated towards slavery while the north was more industrialized and more people worked in factories in places like NYC, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, etc. I hope this answers your question.
