To calculate the area of a circle you have to use the following formula:

A=\pi r^2

Where

A is the area

π is the number pi, for this exercise you have to use up to its two first decimal values: 3.14

r is the radius.

The radius of a circle is half its diameter, so the radius of the circular garden will be

\begin{gathered} r=(d)/(2) \\ r=(8)/(2) \\ r=4\text{yards} \end{gathered}

Next, you can calculate the area of the circular garden as follows:

\begin{gathered} A=3.14\cdot(4^2) \\ A=3.14\cdot16 \\ A=50.24yd^2 \end{gathered}

The area of the circle is 50.24yd²
