When an object appears of a certain color, when white light falls into it and illuminates it. It simply means that it is reflecting the light of that color and it has absorbed all other colors.

For example, the leaves are reflecting green light as it absorbs all other colors of light.

The more light the object absorbs, the more heat is absorbed since light is energy. If you consider it a color, black absorbs the most heat.

Another example is; You must have heard people saying don't wear black in the summers, it is because black color absorbs all wavelengths of light and reflects none.

Whereas, all the white-colored objects reflect all wavelengths of light and therefore absorb the least heat. Taking the earlier example, light-colored clothes are preferred to be worn in summer to stay cooler as they absorb the least amount of heat.
