As of yet, readers are not told why Gatsby has these elaborate parties. We know he doesn't seem to interact much at these parties. Why do you think Gatsby has these parties?

Step-by-step explanation:

In F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby," the character of Jay Gatsby throws elaborate parties at his mansion on Long Island as a way to attract the attention of his former love, Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby believes that by throwing these lavish parties, Daisy will eventually attend one and he will have the opportunity to see her again and possibly rekindle their relationship. He also throws these parties to show off his wealth and status, hoping that Daisy will be impressed and choose to leave her husband for him. Gatsby does not seem to interact much at these parties because he is focused on trying to win Daisy back
