Explanation:

-2x + 5y = 14

3x - 3y = -3 --divide by 3 --> x - y = -1 --multiply by 2 --> 2x - 2y = -2

-2x + 5y = 14

2x - 2y = -2

Add the two equations

-3y = 12

y = -4

PLUG INTO x - y = -1

x + 4 = -1

x = -5
