Saint Teresa of Avila was a Spanish mystic and writer of the 16th century, who is recognized as a Doctor of the Church. She was also a prominent figure in the Catholic Reformation and the founder of the Discalced Carmelites, a religious order that emphasized a life of poverty, humility, and contemplation.
