The CPT codes in the range 90460–90474 found in the Medicine Section are used to report services provided by a physician when counseling the patient and/or family on any adverse effects related to immunization during the administration of a vaccine. Refer to the guidelines in the CPT coding manual for this range of codes. In your own words, briefly explain how these codes would be reported when a significant separately identifiable evaluation and management service is performed in the same visit as the vaccine administration.

The CPT codes in the range 90460-90474 are used to report the services provided by a physician when they counsel the patient and/or family on any adverse effects related to immunization during the administration of a vaccine. These codes are used when a significant separately identifiable evaluation and management service is performed in the same visit as the vaccine administration. To report these services, the provider must use the appropriate CPT code for the vaccine administration and then append the appropriate modifier to indicate that a separate evaluation and management service was also performed. The guidelines for using these codes can be found in the CPT coding manual.
