Economic conflict is a conflict over economical issues. The most basic example would be a conflict over resources, and most of the wars throughout history have conformed to this model. One side attacks the other because it wants land, wealth or natural resources that belong to the other.

Social conflict is the struggle for agency or power in society. Social conflict occurs when two or more people oppose each other in social interaction, and each exerts social power with reciprocity in an effort to achieve incompatible goals but prevent the other from attaining their own.

Stathis Kalyvas identifies eleven types of political violence: Interstate war, Civil war, Terrorism, Political assassination, Military coup, Mass protest/Rebellion, Intercommunal violence, Organized crime/Cartels, Ethnic cleansing, Genocide, and State repression.

Hormby (2006) defines religious conflict as a situation in which religious adherents are involved in a serious disagreement or argument with one religious group and another. this is a situation in which there are opposition in ideas, opinions, feelings and wishes.
