y = 2x + 10 → (1)

y = x + 2 → (2)

substitute y = 2x + 10 into (2)

2x + 10 = x + 2 ( subtract x from both sides )

x + 10 = 2 ( subtract 10 from both sides )

x = - 8

substitute x = - 8 into either of the 2 equations and evaluate for y

substituting into (2)

y = - 8 + 2 = - 6

solution is (- 8, - 6 )
