Given: 2x-3=5(x+6)

Distribute the 5 into the parenthesis:

2x-3=5x+30

Add 3 to both sides:

2x=5x+30+3

2x=5x+33

Subtract 5x from both sides:

2x-5x=33

-3x=33

Divide both sides by -3:

-3x/-3=33/-3

x=-11

Check the answer by plugging in x=-11 into the equation to see if it is a true statement:

2(-11)-3=5(-11+6)

-22-3=5(-5)

-25=-25

Thus, x=-11 is correct
