plants will grow towards the sunlight it needs in order to synthesize, therefore it will grow towards the window (as this is where the source of sunlight comes from)
another indicator is that the plant actually grew (and to the window) therefore it did receive the sunlight it needs to carry out its processes

The stem growing towards the window shows the need for sunlight because the plant is adapting to be able to reach the light entering through the window.
