The next person to classify grouping animals and plants by similar characteristics after Carl Linnaeus was Jean-Baptiste Lamarck.
Jean-Baptiste Lamarck was a French naturalist who proposed a system of classification based on a hierarchical arrangement of organisms, grouping them together by their similarities and differences. He is known for his proposal of a "theory of descent with modification" which stated that organisms could evolve over time through the inheritance of acquired characteristics and natural selection, which would be later popularized by Charles Darwin.
Lamarck's classification system, known as Lamarckism, was a significant contribution to the field of biology and was influential in the development of the modern system of classification used today. He proposed a system that recognized the animal kingdom into two groups: the first one was composed of animals with backbones, and the second of those without, this was a more accurate system than the one proposed by Linnaeus.
It's worth noting that Lamarck's theories were later largely discredited by the scientific community because of the lack of evidence and the discovery of the mechanism of genetics and the Mendel's laws of inheritance, but his contributions to the classification of living organisms has been recognized as important and his impact on the field of biology cannot be underestimated.
