One example of cultural divergence is the division of India and Pakistan in 1947. The Indian subcontinent, which had previously been ruled by the British, was divided into two separate countries: India, which was primarily Hindu, and Pakistan, which was primarily Muslim.

The main cause of this division was the religious and cultural differences between Hindus and Muslims, which had become increasingly pronounced during British colonial rule. The Muslims of India felt that their religious and cultural identity was threatened by the Hindu majority, and demanded a separate Muslim state. On the other hand, Hindu Nationalist felt that Pakistan would threaten the unity and integrity of India, and that Muslims and Hindus should live together in one country.

The religious and cultural differences between Hindus and Muslims were the main factors that led to the division of the subcontinent and the formation of two separate countries, thus illustrating cultural divergence.
