Your turn to practice with using hyperbole.

You read Billy Collins' opinion on what students think of poetry, now add your own thoughts through a poem answering what people think of when they start to read poetry.

Your poem does not have to rhyme, but it should be at least 9 lines in length.

It will be graded on grammar, length, and use of hyperbole.

When people start to read poetry,

Their minds fill with doubts and uncertainty.

They wonder if the words will make sense,

If the poem will be a bore, or a nuisance.

But as they delve deeper, line by line,

Their souls light up with a newfound fire.

Each word a symphony, each phrase divine,

The poetry paints a world that's entire.

No longer do they see dull words on a page,

But a journey, an adventure, a treasure trove.

Their minds and hearts, no longer disengaged,

But forever changed, forever changed, by the power of poetry's prose.
