In this problem there is -3/4 foot change every year and you are trying to see how much changes over 7 years. That means you are multiply the 7 by -3/4. To do that you need to change the 7 into a fraction.

7= 7/1, now you are going to mulitpy the two fractions.

This line represents the numerators: 7 times -3= -21

This line represents the denominators: 1 times 4 = 4

Now that we know our fraction is -21/4 we simplify.

The simplest form you can get is -5 1/4.

To solve this all you have to do is multiply seven by the numerator. -3×7 = 21, so, -21/4 simplified would be -5 1/4. so D is correct.
