Step-by-step explanation:

When solving a function, you plug in the given
x-value (what's inside the parentheses next to the
g or
f) into the corresponding equation (what
f(x) and
g(x) are set equal to).

Before starting the worksheet, take a simpler example:

Given the function
h(x) = x + 2,

the following work solves for
h(3).

h(3) = 3 + 2

h(3) = 5

Essentially, to solve for the value of a function for a given
x-value, simply plug in that value in for
x and simplify the resulting expression.

Onto problem 14 from the given worksheet:

We are given
f(x) = 3x + 2 and are asked to solve for
f(4).

Hence, all we have to do is plug
4 in for
x:

f(4) = 3(4) + 2

f(4) = 12 + 2

f(4) = 14

You can apply this concept to the rest of the problems.
