Answer: The Attack on Pearl Harbor

Explanation: At first the United States wished to have a isolationist stance, as it was generally perceived a general dispute between nations, nothing that needed to be intervened on. However when the Japanese launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, it was a direct attack on the United States, and warranted a quick and decisive action against Japan. Many died in this attack and they lost a ship, which was enough to warrant war after this.
