There are several deserts in India, including the Thar Desert, also known as the Great Indian Desert, which is located in the northwestern part of the country and covers an area of about 200,000 square miles. The Rann of Kutch, a large salt marsh, is also located in India and is considered a desert. The Deccan Plateau, which is a dry and arid region in southern and central India, is sometimes referred to as a desert as well. Finally, the Ladakh plateau, located in the northern part of the country, has a cold desert climate.
