Some of the issues that formerly enslaved African Americans immediately had to deal with upon sudden freedom and American citizenship lack of access to education, lack of access to employment opportunities, lack of access to healthcare, lack of access to housing, lack of access to legal representation, lack of access to financial resources, and lack of access to political representation. Additionally, they faced discrimination, racism, and violence from white Americans.
