Given line in point-slope form:

  • y + 3 = 2(x - 1)

Point-slope form is:

  • y - y₁ = m(x - x₁), where m - slope, (x₁, y₁) is the point on the line

We know that to graph a line it is enough two have two points.

One of the points is (x₁, y₁) = (1, - 3).

Find one more point, when x = 3:

  • y + 3 = 2(3 - 1)
  • y + 3 = 4
  • y = 1

The point is (3, 1).

Plot and connect these two points to get the line.

Graph each equation. 12. y + 3 = 2(x - 1)-example-1
