Answer: (1, 2)

which means

x = 1

y = 2

Explanation:

y = -x + 3

y = 2x

Because both equations are set equal to y, they can be set equal to each other. The equations are ready to go to use Substitution method.

Substitute.

-x + 3 = 2x

Add x to both sides.

3 = 3x

Divide by 3.

3/3 = x

1 = x

We can put the 1 in for x in either equation.

y = 2x

y = 2(1)

y = 2

Putting x for 1 into the other equation is a good check.

y = -x + 3

y = -1 + 3

y = 2

So the x and y that work in both of these equations is:

x = 1 and y = 2

The form that was asked for was ( , ).

So the answer is

(1, 2).
