Solving exponential Equations:

1. express both sides in terms of the same base

(2^3)^y=(2^4)^y^+^2

2^3^y=2^4^y^+^8

2. Once they are the same base, equate the exponents

3y=4y+8

3. isolate for a variable to solve

  • using inverse operations

3y-3y=4y-3y+8

0-8=y+8-8

-8=y

The first option where y = - 8 is correct.
