2x + 4y = 6 [A1]

x + y = 8 (A2)

Multiply equation A2 by -2

-2x -2y = -16

Add this to A1

2x +4y = 6

-2x -2y = -16

---------------------

2y = -10

Multiply equation [A2] by -2 and add it to equation [A1]. This results in equation [B2]
