Answer:

124 inches.

Explanation:

Let first define 'Area':

Area - The total space taken up by the shape of an object.

We can cut the area of the object in the image to make it easier.

You can either cut it horizontally or vertically.

Which is shown below.

I will show both horizontally and vertically.

Starting with;

Vertically:

As we cut it knowing that;

On the left hand side, It is 11 in and since we cut the right hand side off. That side is also 11 in. Doing the same to the top and bottom side. Since we cut the tiny rectangle piece off which also means the top and bottom side are 10 in.

Since we are finding area and Area = Length × Width.

Thus,

Part A:

Area of the big one ⇒ 11 × 10 = 110

Now, we have to find the area of the small one.

Since, we cut it and as we can see the Length and Width is already there.

All we have to do is multiply them.

Part B:

Area of the small one ⇒ 2 × 7 = 14

Next, we add them both together since we cut it.

110 + 14 = 124

Hence, the area of the object is 124 in.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Horizontally:

As we cut it knowing that;

We are cutting it right through the middle.

As we look, 12 in is on the top which the bottom is also 12 in. And the side is 7 in.

Part A:

Area = Length x Width

12 × 7 = 84

Next we have the bottom rectangle.

Part B:

4 × 10 = 40

Now adding them both together :

84 + 40 = 124 in.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hence, the area of the object is 124 in.
