2.ames loved his stepfather, and he was upset seeing him sick. He avoided confronting him because he knew that his situation would upset him. James loved his stepfather and called him "Daddy" because he took care of his mother and other siblings till he got sick.
3. How did James react to and deal with his stepfather's death? James ditched classes, dropped out of school, was involved in crime, smoked and went to the movies with friends. How did Ruth deal with her husband's death? She rode the bicycle and played piano.
6.James McBride says that both white and Black people hate his mother in The Color of Water because of the racial tensions between the two populations in the neighborhood. In James's estimation, his mother must walk a tightrope because she is a white woman with biracial children in an African American neighborhood.
