Assuming n is the number of signers.

7 is 10% of y.
7 = 0.1y
y = 70

n is 80% of y
n = 0.8y
n = 0.8(70)
n = 56
56 signers

Answer:

Find out the how many signers were there .

To prove

As given

There were n signers of the Declaration of Independence.

The oldest was Benjamin Franklin, who was y years old. 7 is 10% of y and n is 80% of y.

10% is written in the decimal form.

= (10)/(100)

= 0.10

80% is written in the decimal form.

= (80)/(100)

= 0.80

As given

7 is 10% of y

Than the equation becomes

7 = 0.10 × y

y = (7)/(0.10)

y = (7* 100)/(10)

y = (700)/(10)

y = 70

As given

n is 80% of y

Than the equation becomes

n = 0.80 × y

Put the value of y in the above

n = 0.80 × 70

n = 56

Therefore the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence.
