The food chain is about the alimentary relationship between producers, consumers and decomposers, It is about who eats whom. It begins with photosynthesis and then is transferred from one organism to another through nutrition. Photosynthesis is produced by photosynthetic plants, which have the ability to create living matter from non-living matter, which is why we call them producers. Then, we have the animals that feed on producers (herbivorous), like insects (invertebrates). The insects, at the same time, are eaten by the secondary consumers or carnivores. In the category of carnivores we also have the predators (those exercising superiority over the rest), like the lion. Finally, we have the bacteria and fungi that break down waste of plants and animals. So, the insects (invertebrates) usually die during the earlier stages of their life cycle because they are a major part of the food chain.
