so we do the same thing to all 3 parts
4x+1<8x-3<4x+5
we see that if we subtract 1 from all or add 3 to all, we will get constants (numbers without placeholders liek 1,-3, and 5) that are divisible by 4
add 3 to alll
4x+4<8x<4x+8
divide everybody by 4
x+1<2x<x+2
subtract x from everybody
1<x<2
x is greater than 1 and less than 2
therefor x is between 1 and 2
x could be 0.5 ex

solution
x>1 AND x<2
1<x<2
