The Richter scale (developed in 1935 by Charles F. Richter) was themost known and standardized earthquake measurement. It is used to rate the magnitude of an earthquake measuring the amount of energy it released through the calculation of information from a seismograph. The range of 2.0 to 7.0 would cause damaged. Reading below 2.0 are called microquakes.
