Most people have issues with word problems because they do not go through the words in the question very minutely. It is of immense importance to go through all the data that has been provided in the question.
Let us assume the original amount that Puja had in her account = x dollars
Then from the details already given in the question, we can arrive at the equation
x + 26 + x + 26 = 264
2x + 52 = 264
2x = 264 - 52
2x = 212
x = 212/2
= 106
