Which sentence uses a verb that agrees with its compound subject?

A. A ladybug and a spider was crawling on the porch.

B. The Mitchells or Mr. Goodman have a new car.

C. Steven or the cousins has cleaned the garage.

D. A hat or mittens are in that gift bag.

Please explain why, I don't get "what verb agrees with its compound subject"

A compound subject is a sentence with two or more subjects. So the question is asking for a sentence that AGREES with its compound subject or two subjects which would be A. Because the ladybug AND spider whereas the others have OR.
